Matches are played across 5 full size pitches. Our two main pitches are among the best in Ireland, with views over rolling countryside and perfectly manicured, level surfaces.
The Number One pitch is central to all facilities at the event and those in the Club Pavilion will enjoy a grandstand view of matches on this pitch.
Rugby is played over two day kicking off at 10am each day!!
Is a fun day for teams arriving early who want a stretch after their journey (give the prop forward a run!). Open from around 4pm, there are no structured competitions this day, however we may locate a referee if teams want to have a fun warm-up match. The bar opens around that time, and the various food sellers will be testing their fayre. This is a great opportunity to meet other teams, have a look around before the spectators arrive, collect your wristbands (4pm onwards) and generally prepare for the Saturday and Sunday competition days.
At 10.00 am (and that's sharp, we have over 150 matches to schedule across the two days!) the first pool plays in the five competitions kick off. Play ends at around 6.00pm, depending on number of teams entered. The bar in the Main Marquee opens around 12pmwith music and fun all day, and there is a wonderful choice of food available from 10amonwards in the Food Marquee. The Main Marquee stays open until around 8pm at which time players make their way back into the town for rest or further entertainment.
Kicking off again at 10.00am sharp, some pool play will be completed and all competitions move to the knockout phases. Play ends usually around 5-6pm, again depending on number of teams entered. The Plate competitions in the Open & Social section, together with trophies for the winners, ensures that teams at all levels of skills and fitness have something to play for. Followed on Sunday night by the festival club at a venue in Kinsale town – tickets available at the event marquee..
A note on timing - many have commented in the past on the efficiency of the tournament, how if you have match scheduled for (say) 2pm it will kick off at 2pm. If your team doesn't turn up at your allotted time then you cede the match and lose the points. With over 80 teams on the prowl it cannot work any other way. Our regular players and team managers really appreciate this, and as we have been running the competition for many years now we take pride in our close control of matches and start times. As you would expect at any event of this size, we have full First Aid, medical Doctor and physiotherapy services on site across the weekend. Our wristband and drinks voucher schemes ensure that we comply with the law whilst enhancing the enjoyment of the event for players and spectators. All participants must be over 18 years of age and a member of a rugby club.
Generally, we would expect Elite Men’s teams to consist of National league players, and either already or planning to compete on the 7s circuit. If you wish to enter an Elite Mens team, please contact the tournament director at [email protected] for info.
This is for those teams who wish to enjoy the festival and play some rugby on both Saturday and Sunday. Social teams play in pools on Saturday, and pool winners will go through to a knockout Social Cup on Sunday. There is a Plate competition on Sunday for those who do not qualify for the Cup competition.
The Plate competitions (both Ladies & Mens) are played off on the Sunday of the weekend. They ave been designed for the teams that are unsuccessfulin progressing throught the Social Saturday Pools and for teams that would like to play some Rugby on the Sunday. Not for the faint hearrted!!

Team Pack – Once your team application is accepted, your team representative will receive login details to access the team administration section of our website. Once logged in your representative will be able to download team match schedules and create lists of travelling personnel to pre-order event wrist bands which will save your party a lot of time on arrival to the event.
On arrival at the venue – All team managers must visit the control booth in the Entrance Marquee to collect your Weekend Pack and register your arrival. This pack contains meal vouchers, competition vouchers, details of your matches and start times, and any last minute changes to the schedule.
To avoid queuing at the event, players should register in advance by completing the travelling personnel list in the team management section (the Team Inbox). Team Managers may take care of this on behalf of their players. Entry wristbands can then be collected directly from the Entrance Marquee with a minimum of fuss upon arrival by showing valid ID. If you are arriving on the Friday this is an excellent opportunity to complete all your administrative tasks so you are free to enjoy the competition on Saturday and Sunday. Be aware Saturday morning is very busy as all teams arrive between 9am and 12pm. Allow at LEAST ONE HOUR to complete entrance formalities prior to your first kick-off time.
